Chapter 25

They touched down in Pennsylvania in the early evening. When they opened up the plane door, Laney was thrilled to see Mustafa leaning against a dark SUV, waiting for them. He pushed himself away from the car with a big grin and hurried over. Laney jogged down the steps and hugged him tight. “Mustafa. I didn’t know you were coming to meet us. I thought we were meeting at the yard.”

He smiled down at her. “When you suggested visiting, it only felt right to join you. Besides, I thought you might want some company for the drive.”

Mustafa looked over her shoulder as Lou, Rolly, and Danny descended the stairs. “Although, it looks like you brought your own recruits.”

“They’re heading to a concert later tonight at Madison Square Garden. I thought I’d hang out with you and Tonya if that’s all right.”

“She would love it.”

“Great, once we track this thing down, we’ll escape while these young ones go trip the light fantastic.”

“Yes, and we old folks will go play a nice game of pinochle and turn in for an early night.”

Laney grinned. “Honestly? That doesn’t sound too bad. But first, these guys are coming with us to the scrapper. Danny wants to see this object for himself.”

“Which means we’re going to make sure that he doesn’t get lost in work and completely forget about us,” Rolly said before hugging Mustafa. “It’s good to see you, man.”

Lou moved in for her own hug.

Mustafa looked at Lou and Rolly. “I feel like I haven’t seen you guys in forever. You look so … adult. You look good.”

Rolly laid a hand against his flat stomach. “I have been watching the carbs.”

Mustafa laughed. “And it shows. Come on, let’s get out to the yard, find out if your thing is there, and then you guys can head off to your night on the town.”

Rolly joined Mustafa, heading over to the car, but Laney slipped in next to Danny. “You okay? You look worried.”

Danny shook his head. “I’m sure it’s nothing. It’s just … the Nazi Bell! It’s kind of crazy.”

Laney linked her arms through Danny’s. “Well, like I said, crazy is our brand.”
